Effective Altruism is the project of using evidence and careful reasoning to figure out how to do the most good with a given unit of resources; it is also a global social movement that takes these findings to try to improve the world.
At LSESU Effective Altruism, our goal is to foster a community of people interested in the Effective Altruist project, both within LSE and with the wider community of London universities. Our society aims to engage students and academics with important ideas at the frontier of doing good, to expand the dialogue on serious attempts to improve world, and to connect students with opportunities that will maximize their impact on the world.
For students at LSE, our career is probably by far the most valuable resource when it comes to improving the world. Therefore, the main focus of our society is to have our members reflect seriously on their career choices, using the most up-to-date research and evidence, to maximize the chances of a truly impactful career. It is also to help our members be in the best position possible to have an impact during their time at LSE and when they leave, through fellowships, career coaching and networking. Our society also organizes events from talks and seminars, to weekly discussion groups and career planning sessions, to regular socials with other LSE societies as well as Effective Altruism societies at other London and UK universities.
