Advancing Black Careers has one main aim: to facilitate the career journeys of Black students both during their time at university and beyond.
Our society, as our name suggests, aims to advance the careers of students of Black heritage. We plan on hosting a variety of networking and careers events in conjunction with industry professionals that have interest in advancing the careers of a marginalised group. The industries we have particular interest in are commercial law, investment banking, consultancy, the public sector, and creative industries. We also plan to carry out educative events for the wider LSE community to share our experiences as Black students and the difficulties we face at higher learning institutions and when entering the workforce as well as advising all students on what they can do to support us. We want to do everything we can to help the advancement of Black students into the working world. A study from 2019 showed that Black job applicants often had to submit up to 90% more job applications than non-Black counterparts before receiving a positive outcome. Being Black at a higher learning institution like the LSE comes with enough difficulties so we want to be reduce the burden of these difficulties as much as possible when we continue our journeys into the workforce.
