ABOUT US

The LSESU Business & Investment Group is the largest and most active society at the London School of Economics. It is the premier finance and business society in Europe. It was established in 2019 through the combination of the two largest and influential societies, the LSESU Investment Society (founded in 2003) and the LSESU Business and Finance Guild (founded in 1996).

Leading in what we do, LSESU Business & Investment Group has become an integral part of life for students who seek to be career-minded. This includes our group chats which welcomed over 500 first-year students as part of the Spring Week application process in 2023/2024. Having launched our continually updated Application Tracker, membership to the society will enable you to be at the forefront of support, guidance and knowledge.

We are proud to have worked with and built relationships with Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Citi, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, HSBC, Rothschild & Co, Nomura, Barclays, Lazard, Evercore, Accenture, Oliver Wyman, Allen & Overy, GIC, Glencore, Fitch Learning, CIMA, Bloomberg Institute, KEA Consultants, Orbis, Grad Diary, Coaching Assembly, TeachFirst, Oxford Business Group, Finimize, Qbera Capital and SPX Asset Management.

We aim to maximise the potential of our members and equip them with the technical and professional skills needed to succeed in their chosen profession and develop leaders for the 21st Century. Our career resources span investment banking, markets, alternative investments, consulting, entrepreneurship, technology, and law. Previous members have gone on to secure highly competitive roles across the sectors which we cover.

OUR VENTURES

BIG CONVERSATIONS

Our flagship event series, regularly brings high-profile guests to LSE, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, politicians, and executives. Our Corporate Relations team organise an array of exciting year-round keynotes, corporate presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops. Past event topics have included public finance, the hedge fund and private equity industries, and micro-finance.

M&A GROUP

The LSE M&A Group is the UK’s first student-run educational club which teaches the fundamentals of mergers and acquisitions. As a subgroup of LSE's largest finance society, the LSE Business and Investment Group (BIG), it offers weekly interactive lessons taught by a passionate and experienced executive team. The 2024/25 executive team is comprised of former LSE M&A Group analysts and will closely mentor our select class of new analysts to succeed in their spring week and internship applications - last year's class achieved a society record by securing 38 spring week offers.

BIG CAPITAL

Our real-money investment fund was launched in 2023. It is a student-run club focused on nurturing LSE talent in research and stock pitching. BIG Capital is split into several teams investing in equities and fixed-income products. This year, we are introducing our flagship BIG Capital Analyst programme, in which a select number of first-year undergraduates will have the opportunity to be trained by seniors who have interned at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank.

LONDON STRATEGY GROUP

Founded in 2017, the London Strategy Group (LSG) is a premier pro-bono strategy consultancy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). We are proud to be one of the UK’s largest strategy-focused student consultancies, serving clients ranging from FTSE 100 firms to start-ups and NGOs. Being part of LSG is an excellent opportunity to gain practical first-hand experience in consulting and receive exclusive training for our official partners.

FOCAL POINT

Our very own podcast, founded in 2020, is the official podcast of the LSESU Business and Investment Group. Weekly episodes featuring industry-changing leaders from across the professional landscape are uploaded to provide exclusive insights to all LSE BIG members looking to sharpen their commercial awareness. Selected members have the opportunity to develop editing, writing, and relationship management skills as they take the lead on the podcasts. Since its inception, the podcast has welcomed guests including Howard Marks (Co-Founder and Co-Chairman, Oaktree Capital Management), Scott Bok (CEO and Chairman, Greenhill), and Sir Charles Bean (Former Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy, Bank of England).

MENTORSHIP FAMILIES

We are revamping how we do mentorship at BIG. Our mentorship families will pair two seniors with a group of first years for mentorship. Our mentors have secured spring weeks from a range of firms and industries, including investment banking, asset management and trading. We have created a shared drive of resources for all the ‘parents’ to distribute to their mentees when need be, and we will be connecting those with similar interests and career paths to learn from past success.
