We share the concerns of the entire LSE community regarding the recent article published by The Beaver. LSESU firmly reiterates that there is absolutely no room for sexual harassment at LSE, and we are resolute in our commitment to eradicating it. No one should feel unsafe on campus.
We are working closely with student groups, including HandsOff LSE, and the EDI team at the University to continue the dialogue on this matter. Although there has been progess in tackling this issue on campus through initiatives such as Consent.Ed, there is still work to be done. LSE bears a significant responsibility to ensure the safety of our campus, staff, and student communities, as well as strive for consistency, accountability, and transparency in its handling sexual misconduct cases. We therefore support the petition organised by HandsOff LSE, which you can sign here.
We also call on LSE to immediately:
1. Provide support and provisions to students and staff both directly and indirectly impacted by the article published in The Beaver
2. Launch an independent review of the handling of the specific case outlined in The Beaver and LSE’s Sexual Misconduct Procedure
3. Devise an Action Plan in partnership with staff and student groups disclosing the measures that LSE is implementing
As LSESU, we stand unwaveringly in complete solidarity with survivors and those actively combating sexual misconduct at LSE to ensure the voice of victims remains at the forefront of the discussion. We must enhance awareness among students about the current support and assistance available.
