Are you ready to shape the future of LSE? If you're passionate about student representation and want to make a real impact on university-wide decisions, the Council Student Member role could be your next big step.

As a student representative on the LSE Council—the School’s highest governing body—you’ll play a vital role in making sure student voices are heard where it matters most. From sustainability and strategic planning to the university’s finances, you’ll be at the heart of major conversations that affect everyone at LSE.

What does the role involve?

  • Participating in high-level discussions on critical issues like divestment, budget planning, and long-term strategy.

  • Attending five Council meetings per year, including a special away day with senior leadership.

  • Contributing to committees focused on key areas such as investments and finance.

  • Handling sensitive information with professionalism and integrity.

What do you bring?
We’re looking for LSE students with strong decision-making skills, the confidence to speak up in important meetings, and a clear commitment to representing the student body. Strategic thinking, attention to detail, and leadership qualities are all essential in this high-responsibility role.

While the position is unpaid, the experience is invaluable. You’ll gain insights into university governance, develop leadership and public speaking skills, and work alongside senior decision-makers to help guide the future of LSE.
