JOB TITLE: Consent.Ed Student Facilitator

REPORTS TO: Heather Williams, LSE Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy Adviser and Mel Johns, LSESU Student Voice Coordinator (Policy and Liberation)

HOURS: Zero Hour Contract, between September 2025 and December 2025

  • You need to have availability to work at least 10 to 15 hours per week during Welcome (week beginning 22nd September and 29th September).

  • After this point, shifts will be less frequent but still necessary to be filled if released

SALARY: London Living Wage

LOCATION: Central London, Holborn Campus

ABOUT THE JOB:

As a Consent.Ed Facilitator, you will play a leading role in fostering a positive consent culture at LSE. Your primary responsibility will be delivering mandatory consent training to a diverse range of students across different courses, year groups, and qualification types during the first term of the academic year. The majority of these sessions will be held on campus, with a few in halls of residence.

In addition to training, you will engage with broader Consent.Ed initiatives led by the Student Union, such as ‘Knot In My Name’, demonstrating a genuine interest and proactive involvement in promoting consent awareness. Your dedication to these issues will contribute to creating a safer and more inclusive campus environment.

Ideal candidates for this role are passionate about consent, committed to making a difference, and eager to lead efforts to nurture a respectful and safe community at LSE.

Please note, this role is only for students who will have full student status during the 25/26 academic year – we cannot accept applications from anyone who will have graduated before January 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading Sessions

  • As a Consent.Ed facilitator you will be working with one other facilitator to lead a 90-minute Consent.Ed session with around 30 students. On some occasions, sessions may require accommodating to 60 student participants. The postholder will be paid for 2 hours (accounting for set-up, debrief, and clean-up).

  • Facilitating Discussions

  • Your role is not to train students but to facilitate a conversation: to share information, explore issues around consent, provide opportunities to discuss how we can create an inclusive campus, and signpost students to the support available at LSE.

  • You will be provided with a curriculum to follow and given training on how to deliver the session and lead discussions.

  • To be patient and to listen to participants’ ideas in the session and encourage thoughtful conversation.

  • To manage challenging participants in a friendly and non-judgemental way e.g., students that are unwilling to participate, are disengaged, make inappropriate comments, dominate the conversation, and/or are distressed. Specialised training will be delivered on this.

  • To be cognisant that the material may be triggering for some individuals and act accordingly e.g., providing trigger warnings. Training on facilitating in a trauma-informed way will be provided.

  • To take time to decompress and check-in with fellow facilitators, being aware that this content can be emotionally challenging.

  • Participating in Wider SU Consent Work

  • We hope that facilitators will help to spread the word about Consent.Ed and encourage students they know (e.g., in their clubs/societies, department, and halls) to take part.

  • To reflect on the session’s success and to learn tips from other facilitators, to improve the programme in the future.

  • We will provide you with comprehensive training on issues around consent and how to facilitate sessions, with many opportunities to practise these workshop leading skills.

  • Contribute to the positive and professional image of the Students’ Union.

  • Any other tasks that would be deemed suitable within this role as directed by line manager.

  • You do not need to be an expert on the topic of consent to apply for this role - we will provide relevant training and guidance

  • We do expect you to take the issue of consent seriously and care about creating a safe and inclusive space for all at LSE and LSESU

  • We recognise that this content is sensitive. We are here to support you and will provide check-in sessions and paid time to decompress.

Important Availability

  • You will need to be available for an assessment day (more details will follow)

  • Recruitment day Tuesday 15th July– in person

  • Online option on Tuesday 22nd July available for individuals with valid reason (subject to availability)

  • Training half days on 26th August, 12th and 19th September – in person followed by an evening social.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

There is no such thing as a typical Consent.Ed facilitator: we are looking to recruit a group with a variety of personalities and strengths. You do not need to be an expert. All we ask is that you care about the issue, believe LSE should be a safe space for all, and be willing to learn.

An ideal candidate would have the following attributes:

  • Strong motivation and passion for wanting to make a difference within the LSE community through delivering Consent.Ed.

  • An understanding and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.

  • Ideally with some experience and/or a willingness to develop effective presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Willingness to learn more about issues surrounding consent in both the LSE and wider context.

  • Eagerness to understand things from differing perspectives.

  • Excellent organisational skills and time management.

  • To be self-motivated as well as having the ability to work effectively in a team.

This list is a guide, and candidates will be shortlisted based on how many of the criteria they meet.

The deadline to submit your application forms below is Monday 7th July, 5pm. We will need you to submit two forms:

The Equality Monitoring Form - https://forms.office.com/e/TiUVzrfUSY

And

The Cover Letter Form - https://forms.office.com/e/smz6zKsDk2

These are the only two aspects you will need to submit – we do not require your CVs or personal statements.

If you have any questions or would like an informal conversation about the role in more detail, please contact Heather and/or Mel at su.consent@lse.ac.uk
